What is an Analog Initiating Device (Sensor)?
This is an initiating device that, when used with a compatible control unit, transmits a signal that permits a system to measure how much of "something" exists at the initiating device location as contrasted with the conventional initiating device which can only indicate an "on/off" signal. Uses for analog initiating devices in a fire alarm signaling system include measuring smoke density, temperature, water level and pressure.
I have been working in the fire alarm industry for 8 years but will not have my CFAA Fire Alarm Technician training completed before November 21, 2011. Will I have to work as a "trainee technician" for one year after I complete my educational (in-school) training?
No, your 8 years of experience will satisfy the CFAA work experience requirements. The one year work experience quotient can be served concurrently while taking the courses. When you do apply to the CFAA for registration as a Fire Alarm Technician you will have to have an existing CFAA Registered Fire Alarm Technician sign your application confirming that you have been actively involved in the industry for at least one year. The one year work experience quotient will affect people who have not worked full time in the industry before. An example would be a student entering the industry directly from College or a person entering the fire alarm industry from another related industry such as sprinkler or security.
